The Color Guard and uniforms were approved and formed by General George Washington in the year of 1784. The Guard had five members and it carried the US Flag, the Army Flag, and the Flag of the 3rd US infantry, the armys oldest active regiment. Two of the best known Color Guards today are the US Armed Forces Color Team and the Continental Color Guard.
